Blauer Bock, Modern architectural structure in central Magdeburg, Germany.
The Blauer Bock was a modern residential building in central Magdeburg distinguished by a characteristic blue-tiled facade. The structure rose seven stories, extending approximately 90 meters in length and about 27 meters in height.
The building was constructed in 1967 and initially served as housing for nurses working at the nearby women's clinic. It gradually lost function and occupancy following German reunification.
The building served as a shopping hub in daily life, with shops on the ground floor and a passage connecting to the nearby department store. This linkage made it a central meeting point for people moving through the city.
The site is only accessible through archaeology and historical records today, as the building was demolished in 2016. Visitors can explore the history of this location through nearby museums or guided walking tours of central Magdeburg.
Archaeological excavations at the site revealed remains of a farmstead dating to the 10th century along with a well from the 12th or 13th century. These discoveries show that human settlement existed here long before the modern building was constructed.
