The Rosenthalstraße 12 building features a 100-meter-long smelting furnace hall with light-grey concrete stepped-back roofs and continuous ribbon windows.
Walter Gropius completed this industrial structure in 1970 as his final architectural project, collaborating with The Architects Collaborative and partner Alex Cvijanovic.
The building earned the name Glass Cathedral due to its triangular gable design and religious-like appearance, reflecting industrial architecture trends.
The facility continues operations as Kristall-Glasfabrik Amberg, maintaining glass production while preserving its original architectural elements.
The structure sits within a dell, with only the roofs and prominent gabled hall visible above the surrounding greenery in the Bergsteig district.
