Steinberg

Steinberg is a mountain summit in the Hildesheimer Wald with an elevation of about 328 meters and features multiple hiking trails through dense forest. The paths wind through different woodland types as they ascend the slope.

The mountain contained a sandstone quarry during medieval times that supplied materials for constructing Hildesheim's Town Hall. This quarrying activity demonstrates the site's economic importance to the city's development.

The mountain paths connect several nature observation points where local residents gather for seasonal celebrations and outdoor activities throughout the year.

Marked trails lead to the summit from parking areas near Hildesheim, with the most favorable hiking conditions occurring from spring through autumn. The paths remain accessible year-round, though winter conditions can be slippery.

The geological layers reveal Upper Keuper sandstone and Lower Jura clay, documenting millions of years of regional development. These formations are visible at outcrops along the hiking trails.
