St. Josef Baden-Baden

St. Josef Baden-Baden is a Roman Catholic parish church featuring a 40-meter-tall bell tower standing apart from the main structure, connected to an oval transverse nave topped with a dome-shaped roof. The building accommodates around 600 worshippers and serves as the largest among seven churches in the local pastoral care area.

Construction started in October 1959 after political circumstances had blocked a building project in the 1930s. The church was completed and first used for mass in May 1961.

The baptistry creates a striking interplay of materials and light, with a dome directing natural illumination through white glass blocks onto the baptismal font while black slate flooring contrasts with white marble surfaces. This careful composition shapes how visitors experience the space.
