St. Achaz, Parish church in Mittersendling, Germany

St. Achaz is a parish church in the Mittersendling district of Munich featuring modern architectural design and spiritual spaces. The building is crowned by a wooden barrel vault divided by belt arches and marked by a 42.5-meter tower that dominates the skyline.

A Gothic structure originally built in 1315 was replaced in 1927 by a neobaroque design created by architect Richard Steidle. The reconstruction was needed to accommodate the expanding population of the neighborhood.

The church displays Baroque altar paintings, including the high altar depicting Saint Achilles of Armenia in military dress with angelic companions. These artworks shape the interior and reflect the religious devotion that has been practiced here over generations.

The building accommodates around 400 seated and up to 1200 standing visitors and serves an active congregation with regular services. Visitors can observe the architecture and artworks while respecting the space as an active place of worship.

Inside the church stands a 21-register organ built by organ maker Dieter Schingnitz in 1995 using pipes crafted from a specific blend of tin and lead. This handcrafted instrument represents an important example of late 20th-century organ craftsmanship.
