Christmas Pyramid, Christmas pyramid in Johanngeorgenstadt, Germany.
This towering wooden structure stands 25.52 meters tall and features multiple tiers with intricately carved figures depicting local history, mining traditions, and regional personalities arranged around a central rotating mechanism.
Erected in 2014 through the initiative of local entrepreneur Siegfried Ott, the pyramid was crafted by 16 woodcarvers from Germany and the Czech Republic during a symposium that created 20 figures representing the city's heritage.
The carved figures include historical personalities such as Kurfürst Johann Georg I., the city's founder, along with representations of miners, exiles from Bohemia who settled here in 1654, and other significant regional characters.
The structure operates with a central rotor wheel measuring 11 meters in diameter, mounted on special ball bearings to enable rotation, while twelve stylized pyramid candles and internal lighting illuminate the display.
Recognized as the world's largest free-standing Christmas pyramid, this monument combines traditional Ore Mountains craftsmanship with modern engineering, featuring figures carved from oak logs up to 1.1 meters thick.
