Kobersfelsen

Kobersfelsen is a protected area featuring steep wooded hillsides and silicate rock formations. Specialized vegetation thrives in the rock crevices and small pockets, adapted to these specific geological conditions.

The area became a protected nature reserve in September 1989 following a decision by the Gera District Council in Thuringia. This designation safeguarded the region's distinctive natural features for the future.

The rock's name stems from a local legend about Elisabeth, daughter of the Lord of Burgk, and her love for Knight Kober. This story shapes how people in the area speak about and remember the place.

Walking through the trails offers the best way to explore the area and view the different slope sections from various angles. The location is easily accessible for a half-day visit at a moderate hiking pace.

The area contains natural nutrient-rich lakes, streams ranging from lowland to mountainous zones, and protects species such as greater mouse-eared bats and crested newts. This diversity makes it an important refuge for specialized wildlife in the region.
