The Sommerrodelbahn Bad Doberan opened in 1996 on the edge of the town, on the slope of the Buchenberg near the Kamp. It was laid out as a year-round leisure attraction for the spa town, whose older draws are the 1363 Cistercian Doberan Minster and the Heiligendamm seaside resort. The 721-metre track with its seven curves has since become a fixture for families from Rostock and the surrounding region.
The slide takes its name from the Sommerrodelbahn, a summer toboggan run rather than a winter sledding track. Riders sit in wheeled sleds on a stainless-steel chute, and the 721-metre descent with seven turns has become a fixture of family outings in Bad Doberan.
