Komturei Lietzen

Komturei Lietzen is a monastic complex from the 13th century featuring a single-nave church, a manor house, and a five-story granary. The buildings display different architectural styles added and modified across the centuries.

The site was founded in 1229 by the Knights Templar and transferred to the Order of Saint John after the Templars were dissolved in 1312. This handover marked a significant turning point in the location's history and management.

The manor house displays baroque ceiling paintings and stucco work that show how the buildings changed in style over time.

Parts of the grounds and the church are open to visitors, though it is best to check ahead which areas are accessible on your visit. Guided tours can often be arranged in advance to learn more about the site's history.

The five-story granary ranks among Germany's oldest storage structures, retaining its original medieval form and building techniques. The craftsmanship and materials used demonstrate how such buildings were constructed during that era.
