Gedenkstätte Seelower Höhen

The Gedenkstätte Seelower Höhen encompasses a museum, cemetery, and monumental sculptures commemorating the final major battle fought on German soil during World War II in April 1945.

The memorial was established in 1945 when Marshal Zhukov ordered the construction of an honor monument, with the bronze statue created by Lew Kerbel and Vladimir Zigal being unveiled on November 27, 1945.

The site serves as a place of remembrance that has evolved from its original Soviet-focused narrative during the GDR era to include multiple perspectives on the wartime events and their aftermath.

The museum is open Tuesday through Sunday with admission costing five euros for adults, while visitors under 18 enter free and the outdoor grounds remain accessible outside opening hours.

The museum building is clad in dark wooden logs designed to resemble Marshal Zhukov's command bunker that once stood on the Reitwein Heights during the battle operations.
