Guest House of the Senate of Hamburg
Guest House of the Senate of Hamburg, Senate guest house in Uhlenhorst, Hamburg, Germany
The Senate guest house is a white-plastered villa along the Außenalster featuring two and a half stories with ornate architectural details. The building contains spacious reception rooms with elaborate stucco work and was designed to accommodate international visitors in grand fashion.
The villa was built in 1868 as a private residence for merchant Johann Friedrich Krogmann and initially served as a grand family home. In 1965, Hamburg's Senate acquired the property to serve as official lodging for distinguished visitors and government business.
The house sits on one of Hamburg's most appealing waterfront locations, where the city meets nature along the Außenalster. Visitors notice the careful interior design and how the spaces are arranged for formal receptions and diplomatic events.
The house is located in a quiet residential area on the waterfront with good access via public transportation and walking paths along the Außenalster. The setting offers a pleasant environment with parks and green spaces in the immediate vicinity.
The interior underwent a major renovation in 1986 with bright color schemes while carefully preserving original stucco ornaments. This update combined modern comfort standards with the preservation of 19th-century architectural details.
