Falkenstein

Falkenstein is a mountain summit near Pfronten that rises to 1,315 meters and features steep rocky slopes covered with forests and vegetation. The peak offers four distinct marked routes that approach the summit from different directions across the mountainside.

The name Falkenstein comes from medieval times when falcons made nests in the rocky cliffs of the mountain. Early German settlers named the peak based on these birds that lived among its stone formations.

The trails across this summit are maintained by hiking groups from nearby villages who gather here regularly. Visitors notice how the paths bring together locals and travelers who share a love for mountain walks.

Four marked trails named Heidelbeere, Eibe, Silberblatt, and Esche offer different difficulty levels so walkers can choose what suits them best. The climb to the top typically takes around two hours, so good hiking shoes and plenty of water are essential.

A mountain hut at the peak has operated since 1932 and can house up to 60 guests, staying open during summer days and winter weekends. This shelter provides tired hikers with a place to rest and recover after their climb.
