Schönecker Schweiz, Protected natural area in Rheinland-Pfalz, Germany.
The Schönecker Schweiz spans 865 hectares across seven municipalities, featuring dolomite cliffs, juniper heaths, orchid meadows, and dense forests in the Eifel region.
The area contains Celtic burial mounds and remnants of a fortified settlement dating from 400 BC to 100 AD near the Altburgbach stream.
The geological site Wetteldorfer Richtschnitt, housed in the Ludwig-Happel-Hütte, marks the boundary between Lower and Middle Devonian periods at 393.3 million years ago.
The reserve offers multiple educational paths including botanical, karst, agricultural, and geological trails that connect the surrounding communities of Fleringen, Hersdorf, and Rommersheim.
Two streams, Altburgbach and Schalkenbach, demonstrate the phenomenon of disappearing water through underground passages, feeding the largest drinking water reservoir in Southern Eifel.
