Schönecker Schweiz, Protected natural area in Rheinland-Pfalz, Germany.

Schönecker Schweiz is an 865-hectare nature reserve in the Prüm limestone basin, protected since 1991 and the largest in the Eifelkreis Bitburg-Prüm. It spans the districts of Schönecken, Niederhersdorf, Oberhersdorf, Giesdorf, Rommersheim, Fleringen and Wallersheim. Its mosaic of dry and semi-dry grassland, juniper heaths, limestone beech woods, stream floodplains and karst features such as dolines, sinkholes and rock walls lies on Schönecker Dolomite from the Givetian stage, about 387 to 382 million years old.

The Schönecker Schweiz lies in the Prümer Kalkmulde, a limestone basin whose current protection status dates from 1991, when an 865-hectare nature reserve was established across the districts of Schönecken, Niederhersdorf, Oberhersdorf, Giesdorf, Rommersheim, Fleringen and Wallersheim. Its rocks, the Schönecker Dolomit, were deposited in the Givetian stage about 387.7 to 382.7 million years ago and are divided into the Bolsdorf, Kerpen, Rodert, Dreimühlen, Cürten and Loogh beds. Nearby, the Wetteldorfer Richtschnitt beneath the Ludwig-Happel-Hütte marks the Emsian–Eifelian boundary, the first GSSP in Germany.

The name Schönecker Schweiz, "Schönecken's Switzerland", sets the low limestone relief against the Alps. The 1991 protection order names the area an old cultivated and settled land, and the juniper heaths and dry grasslands it shelters grew out of that extensive farming. The reserve also protects 60 butterfly species.

The area is accessed by several hiking trails including botanical, karst, and geological routes that connect the surrounding towns. Visitors should expect varied trail conditions depending on the season and terrain.

Two streams in this area, the Altburgbach and Schalkenbach, disappear underground and directly feed the largest drinking water source in Southern Eifel. This phenomenon of underground water flow is visible to visitors at the places where the streams suddenly end and vanish into the ground.
