Moabiter Apotheke, Cultural heritage monument in Moabit, Germany.
The Moabiter Apotheke is a two-story building with a white facade located in the heart of Moabit, featuring traditional pharmaceutical retail spaces and historical furnishings from the 19th century. The structure combines a residence with commercial space, where medications are still prepared and dispensed in the original preserved rooms.
Wilhelm Karl Julius Barnewitz commissioned master carpenter A. Thielbeck to build this residential and commercial building in 1857, marking the early development of northern Berlin. The structure was erected during the period when Moabit transformed from rural countryside into an urban neighborhood.
The pharmacy stands as one of only three surviving buildings from Moabit's early suburban period and preserves original pharmaceutical equipment and storage vessels from that time. The interior still displays the craftsmanship and material choices of that era, reflecting how people engaged with medicine and health care back then.
The establishment offers prescription services, medical consultations, and a digital application for managing electronic prescriptions. Visitors can enter during regular business hours, with the location easily accessible from street level.
The pharmacy still produces medications according to individual prescriptions, with the process typically completed within 24 hours. This handcrafted production of tailored treatments represents a rare aspect of modern pharmacy that has largely disappeared in most cities.
