Former moated castle

This moated castle in Wolkersdorf is a three-story medieval fortification with a plastered gable facade and a prominent bay window on the front. The structure displays typical features of a defensive building from that period, with visible foundations from earlier building phases.

The castle was built in the 15th century on the foundations of earlier structures and shows the gradual development of fortification architecture in Middle Franconia. Traces of these earlier phases can still be seen in the lower layers of the masonry.

The castle's name refers to the water that once surrounded it, reflecting how communities in this region designed their fortifications. You can still see the building techniques in the stonework and structure that were typical for this part of Franconia.

The building stands in the Wolkersdorf district of Schwabach and is visible from the street, so you can view it from outside without entry. Access to the property itself is limited, but you can see the outer walls and traces of the water defenses from the surrounding area.

The original moat system is partially still visible and shows how medieval people used water as a natural barrier against attackers. This engineering solution was a practical and effective way to strengthen the fortification at that time.
