St. Johannes der Täufer

St. Johannes der Täufer is a three-aisle parish church with a retracted choir, a tower positioned in the southern aisle, and a chapel extension on the northern side. The building features baroque pew sides from the 18th century and displays Gothic architectural elements throughout its structure.

The building grew in phases, with foundations laid around 1250 and tower work completed between 1250 and 1300. The Gothic nave was later constructed from 1380 to 1480 and shaped the structure we see today.

The church displays intricate network vaulting patterns in the central nave that draw the eye upward. Wall paintings from the 15th century remain visible and show the artistic tastes of medieval worshippers.

The church is located in the town center at Kohlbauerplatz 13 and is accessible to visitors. Respectful behavior is expected when exploring the interior, particularly during scheduled services.

The building incorporates historical gravestones and epitaphs into its walls, including a full-figure representation of a former pastor. These embedded memorials tell stories of local figures and timekeepers from earlier centuries.
