Schloss, Castle in Winklarn, Germany
Schloss is a castle with two to three stories, arranged around a small interior courtyard and framed by corner towers at each angle. The structure combines residential spaces with these defensive elements in a compact layout typical of regional fortress designs.
First mentioned in the 14th century, the castle shaped the area for centuries. A fire in 1822 destroyed the building, but it was rebuilt and still stands in its reconstructed form today.
The Du Moulin Eckart family maintains this monument, and its rough stone walls with plaster show traditional regional building techniques from rural Bavaria. Walking around the building, you can see how local craftspeople worked with available materials to create durable structures.
The castle is located at Bahnhofstraße 2 in Winklarn, in Schwandorf district. Since it is private property, be respectful of the owners' privacy when visiting the exterior and grounds.
A single-story coach house next to the main structure housed carriages and horses in earlier times. Stone figures and a water fountain scattered through the park hint at how residents once enjoyed their grounds.
