St. Nikolaikirche

St. Nikolaikirche is a Gothic church built with brick masonry featuring three aisles and four bays, with narrow pointed arch windows throughout the structure. The interior shows a hall church design where the central and side aisles reach nearly equal heights.

Construction of St. Nikolaikirche began after 1370, and the western tower received heightening in 1565 with the addition of a stone spire. The building reflects architectural development from the Middle Ages into the early modern period.

The church has served as a gathering place for the community across centuries and continues to shape the town's appearance with its distinctive outline. It represents a location where faith and everyday life have intersected for generations.

The building underwent extensive restoration starting in 1992 and received a new copper-covered spire in 2006 that is visible from far away. An organ with 29 registers is installed inside and can be heard on certain occasions.

The hall choir shows an unconventional design that deviates from standard architectural plans due to limited building space. This feature emerged from a creative solution to a practical problem during medieval construction.
