Lehof

Lehof is a sandstone rock formation rising more than 20 meters above the surrounding landscape, with vertical cliffs on its eastern side. The plateau is covered with trees and offers views across the Harz foothills in several directions.

Sandstone was quarried at this location until the 1930s, when workers uncovered Bronze Age artifacts including swords and rings during excavation. These discoveries reveal that the area saw human settlement in ancient times.

A medieval watchtower once stood at the northeastern edge of this formation as part of Quedlinburg's defense system. The elevated position made it valuable for protecting the city below.

Two walking paths lead to the plateau from the west and south, making it accessible from different directions. Wear sturdy shoes since the paths can be uneven in places.

The eastern side features rock sections that extend beyond the edge, creating distinct overhanging formations in the sandstone. These structural patterns reveal how water and weather have shaped the stone differently over time.
