Schloss See, Heritage castle in See district, Niesky, Germany
Schloss See is an aristocratic manor house in the See district of Niesky, Saxony, featuring a two-story structure. The facade displays 15 window axes and is distinguished by a mansard hipped roof with a central granite-framed entrance portal.
Johann Heinrich Gottfried von Nostitz und Jänkendorf built the castle in 1783, establishing an important late 18th-century structure in the region. The estate changed hands multiple times afterward, including ownership by Peter Graf von Hohenthal and the Counts of Lippe.
After 1945, the building became a retirement home and reflects the social upheaval in East Germany during that period. This shift in purpose shows how aristocratic residences were repurposed to serve different needs in the postwar years.
The estate remains in private ownership and is not open to the public, restricting access to both the building and grounds. Visitors can view the exterior and landscape from outside the property, but interior access is not possible.
An English landscape garden extends toward the south of the property and complements the overall design of this late 18th-century estate. This type of naturalistic garden design was typical for wealthy landowners of that era.
