Stadtkirche Mylau, Protestant church in Reichenbach im Vogtland, Germany
The Stadtkirche Mylau is a brick church in the Vogtland region with a tower rising 78 meters (256 feet) high and a nave stretching 35 meters (115 feet) long. The building displays Neo-Gothic design with red masonry, a cross-shaped floor plan, and ornate facade details from around 1890.
This church was built between 1887 and 1890, replacing an earlier structure that had stood there since the 13th century. Architects Gotthilf Ludwig Möckel and Julius Zeißig designed the new building in the Neo-Gothic style.
The three large stained glass windows behind the altar depict Christmas, Easter, and Pentecost, created by Schneider and Schmölz from Cologne in 1890. These windows shape the interior atmosphere through their glowing colors and religious imagery.
The church is typically open during services and often accessible on other days for visitors to explore. When entering, be prepared for the interior lighting and maintain a respectful quiet as you would in any active place of worship.
The organ dates from 1731 and was built by Silbermann with 1,155 pipes and 21 registers. During the 1890 renovation, it received a Neo-Gothic case that blends its classical origins with the new building's modern design.
