Kirchhof St. Bartholomäus, Cemetery with chapel in Weißensee, Germany.
Kirchhof St. Bartholomäus is a burial ground in Weißensee that spans more than ten hectares and includes traditionally designed buildings such as a chapel and gate complex. The grounds are divided into various sections with pathways, green areas, and administrative structures that run throughout the cemetery.
The cemetery was established in 1894 and originally served the St. Bartholomäus Church community. That community later merged in 2022 with the Advent-Zachäus congregation to form the Evangelical Church Community Am Friedrichshain.
The cemetery takes its name from the St. Bartholomäus Church community it originally served. Today the grounds function as a green space with a chapel and administrative buildings, where visitors can observe the original late 19th-century layout and design.
The administration office is located at the main entrance on Giersstraße 19/21 and is open daily from 8:00 AM, with varying closing times depending on the season. Visitors should be prepared for different pathways and areas, and remember that the site serves as an active burial ground.
One-third of the grounds became Germany's first church-owned forest cemetery in 2013, allowing natural woodland burials beneath old deciduous trees. These wooded areas offer visitors an unusual contrast to the more structured sections of the burial ground.
