Saint Nicholas Church, Medieval church in Ehrenfriedersdorf, Germany.
Saint Nicholas Church is a two-aisled hall church featuring a rectangular choir with shooting holes and a tall spire added to its saddle roof in 1629. The building shows architectural elements from the 13th century onward, with round arch windows and modifications that occurred over many decades.
Construction began in 1280, and the building evolved through the medieval and early modern periods. Round arch windows were added in 1507, with further modifications continuing across the centuries.
The interior displays a large winged altar from the early 16th century featuring figures of the Madonna and saints. These sculptures shape how visitors experience and understand the sacred space today.
The church is located at Obere Kirchstrasse 11 and can be easily found in the town center. Access may be limited during services or events, so it helps to plan a visit when the building is open for viewing.
The church contains eleven bells cast by Wolfgang Hilliger in 1569, along with two additional older bells housed in the chancel tower. This collection spans multiple centuries and represents an important record of bell-casting craftsmanship.
