Überseering 35, Office high-rise in Winterhude, Germany
Überseering 35 is an office high-rise in Hamburg-Nord with two angled wings positioned above a three-story base that together form the structure. The building spans 13 floors and reaches a height of 60 meters with a mix of open-plan and individual office spaces throughout.
Deutsche Shell AG commissioned the building in 1968 to bring together its offices scattered across Hamburg in a single location. Construction was completed in 1974, marking the end of this consolidation effort.
The structure represents the architectural style of Hamburg's City Nord district, designed by the firm Gerkan, Marg and Partner.
The building offers both open and individual office spaces and is easily accessible given its visible location in the district. Navigation through its 13 floors and reaching different areas of the site are straightforward for visitors.
Since 2017 the University of Hamburg has occupied significant portions of the building as temporary space while renovations continue at its Philosophenturm facility. This unexpected use shows how the building adapts to serve different institutional needs.
