Anita-Berber-Park, Public park in Neukölln, Berlin
Anita-Berber-Park is a 6.5-hectare green space in Neukölln with meadows, walking paths, and rest areas situated between Tempelhofer Feld and Hermannstraße. A dedicated zone for dogs and multiple pathways throughout allow visitors to navigate different sections at their own pace.
The site was once St. Thomas Cemetery, where dancer Anita Berber was buried in 1928 and gave the park its name. Following extensive renovation work, it was transformed into a public park in 2017.
The park retains reminders of its cemetery past through a protected clinker wall along Hermannstraße and a historic plane tree alley. These elements create a reflective character that invites visitors to pause and connect with the place's layered history.
Two staircases and a ramp from Leinestraße provide main access to the park, with multiple interior pathways connecting different areas. The ground is largely natural, so visitors should expect muddy conditions during or after wet weather.
Former beacons from Tempelhof Airport still stand in the park as silent witnesses to Berlin's aviation history during the Cold War era. These navigation lights are often overlooked details that reveal the intimate connection between the green space and the nearby defunct airport landscape.
