St. Remigius, Medieval stone church in Albersdorf, Germany
St. Remigius is a medieval stone church in Albersdorf, Schleswig-Holstein, marked by its neo-Gothic tower clad in wood. The interior opens into a simple rectangular hall with a wooden beam ceiling, while the walls still show traces of old plaster layers.
The first written records date from 1281, though the building itself likely arose around 1200. A round tower once stood on the west side before being replaced by the current structure.
The dedication to Remigius recalls the Frankish bishop who lived in the 5th century and whose name appears in places with early Christian roots. Inside, carved wooden figures and furnishings still shape the space where services and celebrations bring together people from surrounding villages.
The church office at Kapellenplatz 3 opens Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday from 9 to 11 in the morning for inquiries. Access to the interior can be arranged through the office or during services.
The tower clock has a dial made entirely of wood, the only one of its kind in Schleswig-Holstein. A late Gothic bronze baptismal font from 1470 shows finely worked biblical scenes still clearly visible today.
