Wehranlagen

Wehranlagen is a large urban park stretching along the Main River with a botanical garden section and woodland area. The grounds contain diverse plant collections, walking paths, and recreational facilities spread across the expansive space.

The site was originally a military training ground that transformed into a park from 1868 onwards, with plants from China, Japan, and Korea introduced between 1870 and 1890. These botanical collections formed the foundation of today's garden.

The garden includes walking paths, sports facilities, and gastronomy venues where residents participate in recreational activities throughout the seasons.

The park is accessible via public transportation and has parking spaces near the internal access roads throughout the grounds. Visitors should wear comfortable shoes and be prepared for varying path conditions depending on the season.

From 1879 to 1944, a private zoo operated within the grounds, housing lions, zebras, and animals from various regions. This facility attracted many visitors and was a popular destination in the area during that period.
