St. Johannes der Täufer

St. Johannes der Täufer is a church building in Holungen that was reconstructed after earlier damage and now features a prominent tower. The structure received a transept addition in the late 19th century and has been modernized with contemporary elements.

The building was reconstructed following destruction during the Thirty Years War, rebuilt adjacent to a surviving watchtower. It received consecration in 1893 from Auxiliary Bishop Augustinus Gockel.

The name honors John the Baptist, reflecting the congregation's connection to this biblical figure. Visitors can sense this link through the sacred design and the building's role in local religious life.

The building is easily accessible and well-maintained following comprehensive renovations in the 1990s. Visitors will find a properly preserved church with modern amenities.

Lightning struck the building in 1897, prompting the acquisition of a new large bell. A clock was later installed in the tower, marking the rhythm of church life.
