Stadtpfarrkirche St. Johann

Stadtpfarrkirche St. Johann is a parish church built in the 18th century with a rectangular nave, narrow transept, and polygonal choir that define its layout. The structure sits at the northern edge of the old town, positioned adjacent to Sigmaringen Castle.

A Romanesque chapel originally occupied the site since 1359 before being replaced by the current baroque structure. The present church was erected between 1757 and 1760 by architects Johann Martin Ilg and Hans Jakob Stoffler.

The church serves as a spiritual center for the local Catholic community and is part of the Diocese of Freiburg. Regular services connect people to the place and make it a focal point of neighborhood life.

The church is located at the northern edge of the old town and is easily accessible from the town center. A covered walkway connects it directly to the adjacent castle, making orientation straightforward when exploring the area.

The bell tower underwent renovation in 1768 and acquired a distinctive onion dome that has shaped the town's roofline ever since. This recognizable feature has made the church a visual landmark across Sigmaringen.
