Viktoria-Kaserne, Military barracks in Altona-Nord, Hamburg, Germany.
Viktoria-Kaserne is a former military facility in Altona-Nord made up of several buildings constructed between 1878 and 1883 for the Prussian military. Located at the corner of Bodenstedtstrasse and Zeiseweg, the complex today houses cultural spaces while outdoor panels explain the long history of the site.
Originally built in 1878 for the Prussian Infantry Regiment No. 31, the site served military purposes for decades. From 1923 to 1937, the police department used it as headquarters before the complex was later repurposed.
The site now serves as a gathering place for creative and community-focused projects run by the fux eG cooperative. Artists, study groups, and people interested in cultural and social issues come together here to work on shared initiatives.
The grounds are freely accessible and the outdoor exhibition with over 30 information panels can be visited at any time. The interior spaces sometimes open for special events and projects, so it is worth checking ahead for what might be happening.
A special feature is the denkXmal exhibition in the eastern wing, an interactive stairwell display with murals and first-hand accounts from different time periods. This installation bridges history with personal memories, making the past of the place directly tangible to visitors.
