Ufa-Palast am Grindel, Movie theater in Grindel district, Hamburg, Germany
The Ufa-Palast am Grindel was a cinema in Hamburg featuring a main auditorium with approximately 750 seats and a large projection screen. The building contained multiple screening rooms and was located at the Grindelberg intersection near the university.
The cinema opened in 1959 as Grindel-Filmtheater and underwent significant expansion in the 1970s. This renovation added extra screening rooms and reshaped the building's layout.
The theater held exclusive rights for Cinerama and Cinemiracle films in Hamburg, presenting European premieres such as Doctor Zhivago in 1966.
The cinema was located at a central intersection with good connections to the surrounding area. It was easily accessible for students and young visitors and offered a wide range of film programming.
The final film screening took place on March 26, 2008, even though many people had signed a petition to stop the closure. The venue disappeared from the city despite these efforts to save it.
