Dorfkirche Ribbeck, Gothic church in Ribbeck, Germany
Dorfkirche Ribbeck is a Gothic church from the 13th century in Ribbeck near Nauen, crowned by a baroque tower with an octagonal lantern. The eastern extension of the stone building features basket-arch windows and lengthens the interior space noticeably.
The building was erected in the second half of the 13th century as a Gothic village church. In 1722, the structure underwent a baroque transformation with a new tower, while 1887 brought an extension of six meters (20 feet) to the east.
The interior preserves a wooden pulpit from the 19th century and displays ornamental paintings influenced by the Schinkel school of architecture. The southern extension houses a barrel-vaulted crypt belonging to the von Ribbeck family, linking the building to local noble lineage.
The building is open to visitors from April through October between 11:00 and 17:00. Guided tours can be arranged in advance and offer deeper insights into the architecture and furnishings.
The octagonal lantern atop the baroque tower stands out clearly from the Gothic base and creates an unusual silhouette at the edge of the village. Many visitors notice the combination of two building styles only when examining the different sections more closely.
