Ernst-Abbe-Gymnasium, Secondary education institution in Neukölln, Germany
Ernst-Abbe-Gymnasium is a secondary school in the Berlin district of Neukölln, made up of three buildings arranged around a central courtyard. The complex has rooms dedicated to specific subject areas, as well as a central media center known as the Abbethek.
The school was founded in 1899 and grew into an important educational center in the district over the following decades. In 2017 the main building went through a full restoration that preserved its historic facade while updating the interior.
The school runs a Latin theatre project where ninth-grade students stage performances based on ancient myths and classical stories. This program brings classical education to life through acting and creative work.
The exterior of the complex, especially the facade and courtyard, can be seen from the street without any prior arrangement. To visit the interior and its subject-specific rooms, it is best to contact the school ahead of time to make arrangements.
Since 2009 the school has worked with a room concept where every subject has its own dedicated and equipped space. This means teachers can prepare and arrange their rooms before class, rather than sharing a general classroom.
