Kirche Heilig Geist, Catholic church in Markoldendorf, Germany

Kirche Heilig Geist is a church building at Wellerser Straße 2 in Markoldendorf, built between 1963 and 1967 as a prefabricated concrete church. Its white walls with tan or gold trim, a tall rectangular tower topped by a slender metal cross, and a lower hall with a flat roof and small rectangular windows define its appearance.

Catholic refugees from Rhineland and Silesia settled in Markoldendorf after World War II. The church was then built to serve this growing population and meet their spiritual needs.

The church's name refers to the Holy Spirit. Its organ was built by the parish organist over six years of spare-time work and inaugurated in 1992, with 11 stops on two manuals and pedal. At the profanation on 24 February 2022, Bishop Heiner Wilmer held a final Mass; the altar cross went to St. Josef in Einbeck and the organ was given to the Protestant Adventskirche in Sinzig.

The building has been closed for services since February 2022. Visitors should check ahead for current access information or any possible limited visiting opportunities.
