Dorfkirche Hausach

Dorfkirche Hausach is a stone church in Hausach featuring high windows, narrow side doors, and a carved tympanum above the main blessing door. The building functions as both a cemetery church and concert venue, with acoustic qualities that make it suitable for musical performances.

The first stone structure was built in the late 11th century by a member of the Wolva family, with written records appearing from 1148 onward. This early construction reflects the settlement's importance in the medieval region.

The interior walls display medieval frescoes with biblical scenes, including a Last Judgment representation showing condemned souls in a giant fish mouth. These painted images reflect how faith was visually taught to worshippers centuries ago.

The building hosts regular musical performances throughout the year, taking advantage of its excellent acoustics. Access may be restricted to concert dates and service times, so checking ahead is helpful before planning a visit.

Restoration work uncovered multiple human skeletal remains within the church grounds, including a stone chest tomb containing human remains. These discoveries reveal the building's long use as a burial site over many centuries.
