Postscheckamt Hannover, office building in Hannover, Germany
The Postscheckamt Hannover was a large building complex from the early 1970s with eleven stories and facades of exposed concrete. The structure consisted of several connected buildings with extensive balconies that gave the complex a strong horizontal appearance.
The Postscheckamt opened in 1974 and replaced an earlier building at Raschplatz, serving the postal savings system that had begun in 1909. With about 1800 employees and more than 250000 managed accounts, it became an important financial services center for postal administration.
The former postal check office shaped the working life of many Hanoverians for decades as a central hub for postal financial services. The complex symbolized the economic importance of postal administration and served thousands of employees as a daily workplace in a functional building environment.
The site is centrally located between Steintor and Nordstadt neighborhoods, in close proximity to the main train station and other important landmarks. The location benefits from multiple transportation connections due to its position in the city center.
The complex featured extensive glass windows and artistic elements including a spherical sculpture oriented toward the street. These art objects served as lasting reminders of the site's architectural and historical character.
