Bunker am Trageweg, World War II air-raid shelter in List district, Hanover, Germany.
Bunker am Trageweg is a reinforced concrete high bunker in Hanover measuring roughly 16 by 15 meters (52 by 49 feet) at its base with four stories. The structure was converted to function as a residential building with ground-floor garages.
The bunker was constructed in 1940 to shelter approximately 751 residents during Allied air raids on Hanover's industrial areas. After the war the structure underwent several transformations before its 2012 renovation into modern residential spaces.
The Trageweg name reflects the area's role as a shelter during wartime. Today residents live within the converted structure, showing how daily life has reshaped a former defensive installation into a functioning neighborhood home.
The bunker is located at Trageweg 3 in the List district and functions as a private residence not open to public visits. Its solid concrete mass and distinctive shape make it easily recognizable when walking through the area.
Specialized machinery had to cut through nearly two-meter-thick concrete walls to create window openings for the living spaces. This technical effort reveals how demanding the conversion from shelter to residence proved to be.
