An der Börse 1, Heritage monument in Hanover, Lower Saxony, Germany
An der Börse 1 is a double-T-shaped monumental building erected between 1892 and 1894 for the former Deutsche Militärdienstversicherungsanstalt. Wilhelm Hauers supplied the plans and executed them with Georg Hägemann, who clad the neo-Romanesque show facade on Landschaftstraße in yellow facing brick, while the facade toward Opernplatz was designed in neo-Gothic forms in sandstone. The building is linked to the house at Landschaftstraße 2a.
Built from 1892 to 1894, the building was designed by Wilhelm Hauers, a pupil of Conrad Wilhelm Hase, together with architect Georg Hägemann as the administrative headquarters of the Deutsche Militärdienstversicherungsanstalt. The double-T-shaped structure links Rathenaustraße and Landschaftstraße. Damaged by bombs in the Second World War, it was later used by Concordia Insurance, and its interior was gutted and rebuilt by architect Klaus Kafka up to 1993 for the Deutsche Bank.
The building was erected from 1892 to 1894 for the Deutsche Militärdienstversicherungsanstalt, a military service insurance institute; the Concordia insurance company later used it. Since the 1990s gutting and rebuilding, the house has served as extension space for Deutsche Bank, whose headquarters stands in the Hannoversche Bank corner building at Georgsplatz 20.
The building is located in the pedestrian zone of the city center and is easy to see and reach from all sides. Visitors can view the exterior facade at any time and explore the surrounding area, as the street is well signposted.
The building was designed by Wilhelm Hauers, a pupil of Conrad Wilhelm Hase, together with architect Georg Hägemann. Its Landschaftstraße facade is clad in yellow facing bricks, while the Opernplatz side was built in neo-Gothic forms in sandstone. The roof zone, originally more richly shaped, was simplified after World War II bomb damage.
