The yew in Somsdorf parish garden is a protected natural monument growing beside St. George's Church. The tree stands about 12 meters tall with a trunk circumference of roughly 1.80 meters, making it a substantial specimen of its kind.
The current tree was planted on April 7, 1847, as a successor to an older yew that appeared in the village coat of arms. The predecessor had a long history and was honored by the community across many generations.

The tree sits at the corner of Höckendorfer Street and Am Graben, near Somsdorf cemetery. Visitors can easily find the spot and move between this monument and two other protected oaks nearby.
The earlier yew was mentioned in Professor Roßmäßler's book Der Wald between 1830 and 1850 and was considered the most robust specimen in the region at that time. This recognition made the tree a noted landmark far beyond the village itself.
