Hebelpark, Public park in central Lörrach, Germany.
Hebelpark is a public green space in central Lörrach that stretches between Bahnhofstrasse and the Wiesental railway line. Large wooden benches and curved loungers dot the lawn, while play equipment and water fountains round out the design.
Between 1610 and 1864 a cemetery occupied this site, before mayor Johann Josef Grether transformed the grounds into a public space in 1875. A few years later the monument arrived, which now forms the center of the green area.
A tall bronze figure of the poet Johann Peter Hebel rises on a stone pedestal and recalls the writer who was born in the region and composed his works in Alemannic dialect. Walkers often pause before the monument, which sculptor Wilhelm Gerstel created in 1909, while families spread out on the lawn around the sculpture.
Bicycle racks and parking spots for people with reduced mobility surround the green space. Ground trampolines and water jets attract children especially in the afternoon, while the benches invite rest at any time.
An old plane tree east of the monument carries the status of a natural landmark and is registered by the local office for landscape conservation. Its wide branches cast long shadows over the paths in summer and attract birds that nest in the crown.
