Technik-Museum Benneckenstein, Automobile museum in Benneckenstein, Germany.
The Technik-Museum Benneckenstein holds an extensive collection with over 10,000 items, including approximately 50 automobiles, 70 motorcycles, 12 bicycles, and numerous trucks manufactured in East Germany. The grounds also include a restaurant housed in a former MITROPA railway dining car.
The museum was founded in 2010 under the direction of Harald Tänzer and focuses on preserving vehicles from the period of German division. In November 2022, Mario Tänzer took over the management and continued the mission of vehicle preservation.
The collection displays vehicles and objects that document everyday mobility in East Germany from 1949 to 1989, including well-known models like the Trabant and Wartburg. A reconstructed Minol fuel station shows how people of that era refueled and maintained their cars.
The museum is accessible five days a week during summer months and offers visits in guided groups. A visit can easily be combined with a meal in the dining car restaurant located directly on the grounds.
Visitors can operate various vehicles on the museum grounds, including trucks and tanks, as part of interactive experiences. This hands-on opportunity sets the museum apart from typical exhibitions where viewing is passive.
