Kolonie Kleinwelka, Religious settlement in Kleinwelka, Germany.
Kolonie Kleinwelka is an architectural complex with 32 protected buildings and a cemetery featuring flat sandstone grave markers arranged in systematic rows. The settlement includes residential structures, educational facilities, and workshop spaces that retain their original architectural character.
The settlement began in 1751 as a Moravian Church community that grew from an earlier Sorbian settlement centered on a manor house. Commercial enterprises such as bell foundry operations later brought economic growth to the area.
The prayer hall shows how the Moravian Brethren organized their community life around shared religious practice. Visitors can observe how this building served as a gathering place for daily worship and collective moments.
The site is best explored on foot, allowing time to observe the various buildings and understand their individual functions. Visiting during daylight hours makes it easier to see the architectural details and the layout of the cemetery.
A bell foundry established by Friedrich Gruhl in 1803 produced over 1700 bells for churches across different regions. This workshop brought recognition to the settlement far beyond its religious community.
