Steinbruch Werbach

Steinbruch Werbach is an active quarry on Höhberg between Welzbach Valley and Steckenleitegraben, spanning about 7 hectares. Large stone blocks are moved by wheel loaders and then crushed into gravel of different sizes using mechanical crushers.

The site began as vineyard land in 1886 and transitioned to quarrying, then grew into a full gravel operation after World War II under Emil Dengel. This shift shows how regional economic needs reshaped land use over time.

The quarry serves as a working center for local stone production and remains vital to the region's construction industry. Visitors can observe how extraction shapes the surrounding landscape and supports regional building activity.

The operation is active and observable from outside, where you can watch the extraction and processing at work. A vantage point from higher ground provides a better view of the entire working area.
