Forum Schwanthalerhöhe, Shopping center at Theresienwiese, Munich, Germany
Forum Schwanthalerhöhe is a shopping center near Theresienwiese in Munich that spans three levels and houses around 90 retail shops. The entire complex covers about 25,000 square meters of retail space and connects different areas of the building.
The project was created by transforming a former XXXLutz furniture store building into a modern retail area. The completion of this major investment in 2019 marked the revival of the site near Theresienwiese.
The space takes its name from Ludwig von Schwanthaler, a significant sculptor in Bavarian art history. Inside, a kinetic art installation called Dancing Mirrors by artist Ingo Maurer uses moving mirrors to play with light in surprising ways throughout the space.
The parking garage with about 1,000 spaces is open around the clock and offers direct access from Schwanthaler Straße and Theresienhohe. Visitors can easily navigate through the internal street that connects different areas and provides good visibility throughout the complex.
A central shopping street runs through the entire complex and functions like an open-air passage with natural light and good air circulation. This open structure sets it apart from typical shopping malls and creates a more pleasant shopping experience.
