Bismarck monument

The Bismarck monument in Heppens is a bronze statue that depicts the former German Chancellor at life size and stands in a public open space. The figure wears a long coat and holds a sword while standing upright and appearing to gaze across the square.

An original monument was created in 1905 by Georg Meyer-Steglitz but was lost during World War II. The current work was erected in 2015 and replaces the destroyed original with a fresh artistic interpretation.

The figure depicts Bismarck in a commanding pose that reflects his influence on German history, and locals view it as a symbol connected to their city's development. The statue occupies public space where residents and visitors pass by and engage with this representation of a key historical figure.

The monument was not funded by government authorities but was made possible through private donations from local people. A street musician played a role in collecting these funds, showing how citizens supported the creation of this work.
