Beech of Schwafheim, Natural monument in Schwafheim district, Moers, Germany.
The Beech of Schwafheim was a substantial tree with a thick trunk and spreading crown that stood at Heideweg 97a in Moers. This woody plant rose prominently from its location and could be easily spotted from the surrounding area.
The tree grew at its location for many years, becoming a long-standing feature of the Schwafheim landscape. In August 2015, it was removed due to age-related decline and deterioration of its health.
The tree served for generations as a gathering place where locals connected with nature and held community events in its shade. It also functioned as an open classroom where school groups learned about forest ecology and woodland life.
The former location is at Heideweg 97a and can be found using coordinates 51.424912 latitude and 6.648665 longitude. The site is easy to reach by following Heideweg street, though only the empty space where it once grew remains today.
Local environmental groups have preserved photographs and records of the tree, documenting its appearance and importance to the region. These collections help keep the memory of the tree alive and make its story accessible to future generations.
