Wasserturm Rheinhausen-Bergheim, ehemaliger Wasserturm in Duisburg-Bergheim
The Wasserturm Rheinhausen-Bergheim is a water storage tower in Duisburg that stands approximately 50 meters tall and has seven floors. At its top sits a round water tank supported by a steel structure, and beside it stands a round brick pump house that originally contained two operating pumps.
The tower was built in 1908 as the area expanded rapidly through industry and population growth, particularly after the Krupp steelworks was founded in 1897. The pumps were shut down in 1996 and the tower was designated a protected monument in 1990.
The tower takes its name from the Rheinhausen-Bergheim district and marks a time when the area expanded rapidly due to industrial growth. For longtime residents, it serves as a familiar landmark from their childhood that shaped the neighborhood across generations.
The tower is part of the Route Industriekultur, a visitor route that guides you through Duisburg's industrial history and connects many historical sites. You can explore the area on foot and view the structure from outside, while also visiting nearby historic buildings such as the Bergheim mill.
During winter months from November through December, the tower is illuminated with green lighting at night, giving the historic structure a modern touch and making it a special sight after dark. This lighting emphasizes its status as an industrial monument of the Ruhr region.
