Christuskirche, Protestant church in Dormagen, Germany.
The Christuskirche is a Protestant church building in Dormagen featuring a 33-meter pointed tower as its most visible feature. The exterior walls use Dutch clinker tiles while the interior ceiling is constructed from Carolina Pine wood.
The congregation started in 1895 with services held in private homes until the first church building was completed in 1927 based on architect Damm's design. The current building emerged from a competition with 117 entries and was dedicated in 1963.
The name points to Christian faith and its central role in the congregation's life. Visitors can see artistic works today, including the altar made of Belgian granite and mosaics displayed throughout the interior.
Access for visitors is generally available during daylight hours, especially around service times. The location within Dormagen makes it easy to reach and the spaces inside are arranged in a straightforward layout.
The design for the current building came from Klaus Heubel and won against 116 other proposals in a large competition. The travertine pulpit and the former baptism chapel with its mosaics are lesser-known details that visitors often overlook.
