Alte Kaserne Neustrelitz, Military heritage building in Neustrelitz, Germany
The Alte Kaserne Neustrelitz is a former military building with three stories and a symmetrical stone facade on Strelitzer Street. The structure features projecting sections and ornate cornices that define the classical military architecture of its time.
The building was constructed between 1846 and 1861 following architect Friedrich Wilhelm Buttel's designs and originally housed the Mecklenburg Grenadier Regiment Number 89. It was built on the grounds of a former cemetery.
The building displays typical features of Prussian military architecture with local construction techniques from the 19th century. Its style reflects the regional craftsmanship and austere design common to that era.
The former military building now operates as a shopping center called Husarenmarkt with retail spaces and offices in central Neustrelitz. Visitors can view the exterior appearance and architecture of the historical complex from the street.
The building originally included specialized spaces such as horse stables and an officers' casino. These additional facilities demonstrate the variety of functions required within a military complex of that period.
