Schloss Willershausen, Medieval castle in Herleshausen, Germany.
Schloss Willershausen is a castle featuring a rounded shell corner tower and Gothic substructures located at Bergring 6 in Willershausen. The complex includes a half-timbered residential house that completes the estate layout.
The estate first appeared in records during 1539 when it belonged to the Treusch von Buttlar family. Ownership then passed to the Landgraves of Hesse-Philippsthal in 1757.
The upper residential level from the late 17th century displays stucco work that shows how local craftspeople decorated homes for wealthy families during that period.
The castle is accessible from the southern part of the village and sits close to a fortified church. Walking through the area helps you see how the castle sits within the older village layout.
The defensive and residential tower dates back to 1280, making it older than most other structures visible at the site today. The original moat system that once surrounded the entire estate can still be traced in the landscape.
